Bienvenidos a un podcast sobre biotecnolog\u00eda de insectos conmigo, Toby Webb. Soy uno de los cofundadores a cargo de asuntos externos y sostenibilidad. Se une a m\u00ed en el podcast de hoy es Ben Brown, nuestro CEO y fundador. Bienvenido de nuevo al podcast, Ben. Acabas de estar en el Conferencia Insecta en Berl\u00edn<\/a>que es una gran conferencia sobre insectos en la que participan muchos acad\u00e9micos y cient\u00edficos. En qu\u00e9 consiste este evento y qu\u00e9 aprendi\u00f3 de \u00e9l?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben: Aprend\u00ed muchas cosas nuevas. Se trata de un acto acad\u00e9mico de tres d\u00edas de duraci\u00f3n, presentado por investigadores, profesores e institutos cient\u00edficos. Est\u00e1 muy centrado en la investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica y no s\u00f3lo en la creaci\u00f3n de redes. El primer y el segundo d\u00eda fueron un poco m\u00e1s f\u00e1ciles de manejar, pero el tercero fue estrat\u00e9gicamente dif\u00edcil. Lo principal que aprend\u00ed es que la industria se est\u00e1 centrando realmente en el aprovechamiento de los residuos. Muchas empresas intentan encontrar el sustrato m\u00e1s \u00f3ptimo para sus insectos, pero nosotros nos dedicamos a aprovechar los verdaderos residuos y convertirlos en ingredientes \u00fatiles como prote\u00ednas, fertilizantes y aceite. El acto puso de manifiesto que vamos por buen camino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toby: Usted lleva una d\u00e9cada estudiando este campo y ha creado una empresa en este \u00e1mbito con plantas de demostraci\u00f3n en Espa\u00f1a. \u00bfQu\u00e9 cree que dice esta conferencia sobre hacia d\u00f3nde se dirige el sector y c\u00f3mo ha madurado en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben: El sector ha madurado mucho. Ahora hay m\u00e1s proveedores de servicios y grandes proveedores de capital que entran en este espacio. Tambi\u00e9n hay m\u00e1s financiaci\u00f3n en este campo, aunque algunas investigaciones pueden ser demasiado acad\u00e9micas para el mundo empresarial. En general, el sector est\u00e1 a\u00fan en su fase inicial, pero despierta un gran inter\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toby: Aunque nos llamamos biotecnolog\u00eda de insectos, estamos intentando cambiar el enfoque hacia la valorizaci\u00f3n de los residuos, siendo los insectos el mecanismo. \u00bfCree que la industria se centra demasiado en los insectos y no en lo que pueden aportar a gran escala?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben: Puede que algunos se centren demasiado en los insectos, pero la industria se est\u00e1 dando cuenta de que se trata de ofrecer prote\u00ednas y otros productos sostenibles. La atenci\u00f3n se centra en utilizar los flujos de residuos de forma responsable y ser respetuosos con el medio ambiente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toby: \u00bfC\u00f3mo ve las perspectivas para el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o, especialmente teniendo en cuenta los retos a los que se ha enfrentado el sector ole\u00edcola?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben: Las perspectivas son positivas. Si nos fijamos en las necesidades alimentarias de los animales, el potencial de la industria de los insectos es enorme. Con pr\u00e1cticas agr\u00edcolas sostenibles, cr\u00eda de insectos<\/a> puede competir con otras industrias. La industria parece sobrealimentada, y las conversaciones con empresas de alimentos para mascotas y acuicultura son prometedoras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
