Sustainable Innovation

InsectBiotech uses black soldier fly larvae to transform agricultural and food waste into valuable products. Their process reduces pollutant emissions and creates fertilizers and biostimulants for regenerative agriculture.

Future Goals

InsectBiotech will begin production trials in 2025 to refine its process before scaling up to large-scale manufacturing.

The company plans to build several factories in Andalusia. By 2031, it aims to produce:

  • 32,000 tons of protein annually.
  • 220,000 tons of fertilizers annually.

InsectBiotech is also conducting field trials for its products in collaboration with various strategic partners in the region.

Ignacio Gavilán, CEO of InsectBiotech, stated:

“We are very proud to receive the Málaga AgriTech Award. This accolade, along with the Alhambra Venture Award last July, validates our mission to transform agricultural waste through eco-friendly, insect-based solutions.”

InsectBiotech utilizes by-products from olive milling and other residues to produce high-quality proteins for pet food, livestock, and aquaculture.

This approach reduces the need for traditional feed sources like soy or fish meal, decreasing:

  • Land use.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Ocean impact.

The company also produces fertilizers and soil nutrients, supporting more regenerative agricultural practices.

To continue its expansion, InsectBiotech is raising €8 million to build its first farm in Jaén, Andalusia.

Additionally, InsectBiotech seeks more partners to carry out product and field testing.
